Bugis is an underground station located near the Bugis area on the East West Line and the Downtown Line. Bugis was originally a temporarily terminus for the Downtown Line.
History[]
Bugis was opened on the 4th of November 1989. It was part of Stage 2, along with other stations like Lavender. Downtown line first operated on the 22 December 2013. Bugis was part of the first 6 stations with that line.

'Bugis' comes from the fact that originally a river ran through Bugis. The earliest known users of this canal were the Bugis, a notorious seafaring warrior tribe from South Sulawesi in Indonesia[1].
