Bugis is an underground station located near the Bugis area on the East West Line and the Downtown Line. Bugis was originally a temporarily terminus for the Downtown Line.

History

Bugis under construction in 1990s

Bugis was opened on the 4^th of November 1989. It was part of Stage 2, along with other stations like Lavender. Downtown line first operated on the 22 December 2013. Bugis was part of the first 6 stations with that line.

Trivia

'Bugis' comes from the fact that originally a river ran through Bugis. The earliest known users of this canal were the Bugis, a notorious seafaring warrior tribe from South Sulawesi in Indonesia.
