North East Line

The North East line is the 3rd line constructed on the MRT system. Built on the 20th of June, 2003 (excluding Woodleigh & Buangkok), this line is operated by SBS Transit. Although it experienced many issues, its plan was successful for connecting towns to the main area. This made Buangkok opened on the 15th of January 2006 and Woodleigh on the 20th of June 2011. The line connects from HarbourFront (where the World Trade Center was) to Punggol (North East of Singapore)

This has 16 stations making it the shortest MRT line. A new station currently under construction, Punggol Coast will soon be opened and replace Punggol as the northern terminus.

History

The line first opened on 20 June 2003 with 14 stations from HarbourFront to Punggol, skipping over Woodleigh and Buangkok due to lack of development in the area. Buangkok opened in 2006 and Woodleigh opened in 2011. The only rolling stock was the C751A until 2015 when the C751C debuted, and 2023 with the C851E. A one-station extension to Punggol Coast will open in 2024.

SBS Transit operates the North East Line, giving the line a fleet of two types of trains, the C751A and the C751C. The C751A is the first underground automated train to have steel wheels (not rubber...).
